This Saturday is National Rebuilding Day, where volunteers help to fix up homes for people who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
The effort comes through the nonprofit group Rebuilding Together, whose mission statement advocates “a safe and healthy home for every person.” Crews are going to work on 15 Minneapolis homes in this year’s program, involving 200 volunteer workers. One of those homes belongs to Iris Hodges. She told Kerry McNally she has been living in her home for 15 years.
Recently, the roof started leaking, so one of the partners of Rebuilding Together, Select Evergreen, will be pitching in to help fix the roof. “I thank God that Rebuilding Together is here to help me with this,” said Hodges.
Rebuilding Together Twin Cities is a plan to bring together volunteers in communities to help improve the lives of low-income homeowners. This project helps to provide home repairs to independent homeowners, like disabled, the elderly, or families with children, so that they can have a home that is warm, safe, and dry. This program has been helping to revitalize homes since 1997 and is always looking for volunteers and corporate help.
Select Evergreen’s Involvement
When Joseph William Hahs, owner of Select Evergreen, learned about the program, he knew that it was one way that he could help to give back to a community. Joseph Hahs was in the position to give something that a lot of corporate sponsors are unable to gift to the program: a brand new roof.
Roofing is something that Select Evergreen knows all about. The company installs and repairs hundreds of roofs a year, so a brand new roof from the company will not only be sturdy and solid, but will be installed correctly. This means that the family who is gifted with this roof will be able to rest securely knowing that no matter what type of weather occurs, their roof will help to keep them safe and, most importantly, dry.
“We are excited to announce the donation of an entire roof through our partnership with Rebuilding Twin Cities Together during the month of April.” Joseph Hahs said.
